Ahead of the premiere of the popular Netflix series Stranger Things 4 Volume 1, Gateway of Indian, the symbolic landmark of Mumbai, celebrated the launch of the show. Ever since Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown) ripped open a portal between Hawkins and the Upside Down in 1983, similar rifts have been opening up in the most unexpected places. The makers wanted viewers in India to experience the world of Upside Down.

To celebrate the return of Stranger Things, rifts appeared on some of the most iconic monuments around the globe (through projection mapping). Mumbai’s The Gateway of India also joined this unique initiative, alongside a special list of 15 prestigious landmarks (across 14 countries), such as the Empire State Building in New York, Duomo Square in Milan, Bondi Beach in Australia, Malecon Barranquilla in Colombia and The Wawel Castle in Krakow, among others.

Stranger Things 4 fans from Mumbai were treated to a grand celebration with a one of a kind projection mapping on the city’s popular tourist landmark – The Gateway of India. Taking over the night skies of Mumbai, the heritage monument was lit up with a larger than life display of popular elements from the series. It gave glimpses of characters including Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas, Max and the gang, along with all the mayhem that’s in store for them in the Upside Down.

The visitors at the Gateway of India were enamoured and were seen clicking pictures and taking videos.

The official synopsis of Stranger Things 4 reads, “It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time – and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier. In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”

Created by The Duffer Brothers, Stranger Things is produced by Monkey Massacre Productions & 21 Laps Entertainment with The Duffer Brothers serving as executive producers, alongside Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen of 21 Laps Entertainment, Iain Paterson, and Curtis Gwinn.
